Experiments were performed in pond ecosystem with different sex of Gambusia holbrooki i.e. female, male and juvenile to assess the impact of different categories of fish on planktonic community. Study showed that in all the ponds with fish zooplankton number declined drastically while phytoplankton community showed excessive growth in comparison to control pond. Significant negative correlation was observed between phytoplankton and zooplankton community in ponds with female and male and juvenile fish. Different sex shows size specific predation pressure on zooplankton community. Higher values of pH, DO and low values of secchi disc transparency were noticed in all the ponds with fish in comparison to control pond. Study concludes that the fish showed the 'top-down' control on zooplanktonic community structure and abundance and thus on phytoplankton. It is suggested that the removal of this fish from Lake Nainital, could be one of the key factor in controlling the productivity of lake.Keywords

Present paper reports the results of a study conducted to ascertain the use of the libraries of colleges of education by the students of B.Ed. course in Punjab. A survey was conducted through questionnaire to know the opinion of students about the resources and services of their respective college libraries. In total 1119 questionnaires were administered and 1084 were received back completed. Users‟ responses on different aspects including frequency of visit to libraries, purpose of visiting, type of documents used, awareness about library services, use of resources and services, satisfaction with resources and services etc. has been discussed. An overview of the growth and development of teacher education institutions has been provided. A brief account of the NCTE norms and standards about libraries of colleges of education is also given.Keywords

The implementation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) has revolutionised the information availability, accessibility and utilization. The Open Access movement is one of the greatest accomplishments of ICTs. It takes information to the doorsteps of the users without any charges and provides more visibility to the information generators. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) has added a new chapter to the Open Access literature. Having its origin in 2002 with 30 journals, the Directory provides access to more than 6600 journals in various disciplines. The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries have contributed total 431 journals in different subjects to DOAJ up to 20.06.2011. The present paper evaluates the contribution of SAARC nations to DOAJ. It is concluded that India and Pakistan are the dominant contributors to DOAJ among SAARC countries.Keywords

Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA) is the palpable effort of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to facilitate access to select scientific literature to the academic and research society in the National Agricultural Research System. The consortium provides access to articles from nearly 3000 journals in the broad spectrum of agricultural sciences, including 194 journals in the subjects of animal husbandry, livestock management and poultry sciences; animal nutrition, feed, feed additives and manufacture; dairy technology; fisheries and aquaculture and veterinary science. This article is an attempt to assess the journal collection of CeRA in the above-mentioned subjects. The review status of journals, impact factor, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences rating of scientific journals 2012 (effective from 1 January 2013) and access to archives, are the parameters used for assessment of the journal collection of the consortium.Keywords

The present study aims to examine the research impact of open access journals in the subject of animal sciences. The Impact Factor (IF) of journals, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) rating of journals, SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) and h-index are the parameters used to assess the research impact of periodicals enlisted in Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) under the subject headings 'Animal Culture' and 'Veterinary Medicine'. The findings revealed that more than 1/3rd of total 126 OA journals have succeeded to attain IF and NAAS rating. Despite this, only 6 of these journals have been able to find place in the core list of veterinary journals suggested by the Ohio State University. As large majority of journals got listed in DOAJ during 2011-2013, the research impact of OA has to be tested over the period.Keywords

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of the scholastic output on breast cancer in India. The purpose is to provide an overview of the research activities in the country on the subject during the last ten years, exploring different aspects of scientific literature. Data on 3529 items, including 2945 articles and 584 reviews published during 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2014 were collected using Scopus. An advanced search was conducted in the database. The search results were filtered for English language, journals, India and the period under study. Lotka's law was applied to assess the author productivity and Bradford's law of scattering was used to ascertain the distribution pattern of articles in journals. Most (about 96%) contributions were found to be an outcome of collaborative authorship. Around 19.05% of the papers had collaboration of four authors and 16.53% appeared due to collective efforts of three authors each. Trend of an increasing number of articles published over the period has been observed. Author productivity did not fit the Lotka's law with a value of n = 2. The distribution of articles in journals was found acceptable to the Bradford's law of scattering.Keywords

Purpose: The study outlines the growth of scientific literature on Azadirachta indica in journals applying bibliometric analysis. The purpose is to provide an overview of the research activities on the subject, exploring different aspects of scientific literature. Methodology: The data was accessed in the month of August 2015 using the 'PubMed'. An advanced search was conducted in the database using the phrase 'Azadirachta indica' and alternative search terms including 'neem', 'indian lilac' and 'margosa'. The search results were filtered for journal articles, English language and up to the year 2014. A total of 1198 results were found fulfilling the search criteria. The data was downloaded in Excel format and then analyzed. The data analysis was performed using frequencies and percentages of publications. Besides, Lotka's law had been applied to assess the author productivity and Bradford's law of scattering was used to ascertain the distribution pattern of articles. Findings: A high degree of research/ authorship collaboration (.9472) on Azadirachta indica was found. All except 05.28% articles were works of joint authorship. Author productivity considering first author as well as all authors did not fit Lotka's law with a value of n=2. The distribution of articles in journals was found nearly acceptable to the Bradford's law of scattering making it obvious that there are a few core journals contributing significantly on Azadirachta indica. Thermosolutal instability of Veronis type in Rivlin-Ericksen viscoelastic fluid in the presence of uniform vertical magnetic field in a porous medium is considered. Following the linearized stability theory and normal mode analysis, the paper mathematically established the condition for characterizing the oscillatory motions which may be neutral or unstable, for any arbitrary combination of free and rigid boundaries at the top and bottom of the fluid. It is established that all non-decaying slow motions starting from rest, in a Rivlin-Ericksen viscoelastic fluid of infinite horizontal extension and finite vertical depth in the presence of uniform vertical magnetic field in a porous medium, are necessarily non-oscillatory, in the regime

where Rs is the Thermosolutal Rayliegh number, Q is the Chandrasekhar number, p2 is the magnetic Prandtl number, p3 is the thermosolutal Prandtl number, P1 is the medium permeability, ε is the porosity and F is the viscoelasticity parameter. The result is important since it hold for all wave numbers and for any arbitrary combination of free and rigid boundaries at the top and bottom of the fluid. A similar characterization theorem is also proved for Stern type of configuration.

The study analyses the dynamics of scientific output on ‘Bovine Viral Diarrhoea’ (BVD) published in journals, applying scientometric tools. The data was gathered from ‘Scopus’ database, conducting an advanced search for phrase ‘Bovine Viral Diarrhoea’ and substitute terms including ‘Bovine Virus Diarrhoea’, ‘Bovine Viral Diarrhea’ and ‘Bovine Virus Diarrhea’ as main operators for analytical purposes. The retrieved data was filtered for English language journal articles, for the period up to 31st December 2015, yielding 3561 relevant results. The different scientometric indicators of literature on BVD including it is growth, authorship, collaboration, publication pattern, geographical distribution, etc. were computed. International collaboration and keyword landscapes were visualized.Keywords

The study was carried out to map out the dynamics of scientific output in fisheries and aquaculture in India during the decade 2007–2016, applying scientometric tools. The publication pattern, most productive journals and author have been identified and statistical analysis of citations to publications has been executed. The data was retrieved from ‘Scopus’ database for phrases such as ‘fisheries’, ‘fishery’ and ‘aquaculture’ as main operators. The search results were filtered for journal articles, English language and for the period 1 January 2007–31 December 2016. The authorship, geographical and keyword landscapes were visualized using free to use visualization software. The study revealed that the number of articles on fisheries and aquaculture have more than doubled from 2007 to 2016. The results indicated a significant correlation between number of citations and number of years from which the article has been published. The United States emerged to be the top most collaborator of India to work in this field followed by South Korea, United Kingdom, Japan and Germany. The network visualization is expected to be useful to the scientific community in analysing the research trends in subject under study and further strengthening the research activities.Keywords

This study presents scientometric analysis and network visualization of journal articles on Nipah virus for a better understanding of research trends on the subject. Metadata of journal articles were retrieved from Scopus database in 2018. After filtration of irrelevant and incomplete records, 1007 records were analysed to examine the publishing trends on Nipah virus. The network visualization was accomplished using ‘VOSviewer’, ‘Gephi’ and ‘Sciencescape’ software. Results revealed inconsistent growth of articles on the subject. There were only few productive authors with ≥ 15 records, but others contributed on the subject occasionally. The United States (as a country) and North America (as continent) led the world in terms of contribution to the number of articles (n = 469 and 522 records respectively). Six leading institutes contributed to ≥50 records each. Out of 373 journals, ten core journals published 31% of the total journal articles. Predominant topics discussed in the articles included: characterization, pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, transmission, outbreaks and vaccine development. A great degree of inter-country and inter-continent collaboration was detected among the US, Australia, Malaysia, United Kingdom and Bangladesh, depicting that the developed world is working in association with the developing nations to tackle the problem.Keywords
